Mud!!

The scratch coat of mud is the current project.

First, we sift the mud.

Then it gets sprayed on the wall.

And here is what it looks like when dried.

The scratch coat helps seal the wall, protecting the straw from water and critters. It also helps seal the straw so the wood stove can go in. This will help heat the house a bit so it’s more comfortable to work on the interior during the winter months.

In the spring, the other two layers of mud will go over the scratch coat.

The last bale

Today marks the last bale to go up. It’s been a long time coming but I’m so proud of what The Pig has been able to accomplish. Thank you to everyone who helped!

Saturday Fun Day!!

This weekend was awesome!! We started putting up the bales on the walks. Everyone came up to help and it was great getting to visit. My dad even came up to help, he enjoyed using the hook to pull the bales down from the stacks.J helped split the bales. And A. Helped stack them. The Piggy did an excellent job along with all if the rest of the family. Even if some were just moral support. 😁Everyone can help…Its going to be a fantastic house!!

Straw bales

This is 32,000 pounds of straw. These will be one the outside walls of the house. A slurry of mud and clay will be sprayed on them and the final mud wi he placed on in the spring. Hopefully, we can get them stacked all in one weekend!!

Rock wall

Status update on the courtyard wall. Slowly but surely the rock face is going up. It will look nicely paired with the garden to give it a natural look. When asked about the walk, the Puggy said, “its a pain in the ass!” But then went on to say he was planning to put in rock shelves. Overall, I think he’s pleased.
